Abigail- Woman of Beauty & Understanding

This woman is the epitome of “Beauty and Understanding” and her name is Abigail.

In 1 Samuel 25:3, we read the story of a man who was a good businessman: he could bargain, negotiate, generate a profit and expand his merchandise, but lacked character and was  noted to be harsh and evil in his dealings (1 Sam 25:3).

Nabal was “very rich.”  [25:2 NKJV].  The amount a wealthy person would have in dollar bills, Nabal had in sheep and goats! Needless to say the man was doing well for himself.

But Nabal’s harshness and mean-temperament was overwhelming so much so that he received a reputation of such. Though he lacked character and often mistreated, and beguiled others, there was one decision Nabal made that was good.  That is, in choosing Abigail as his wife.  Abigail was the rose amongst thrones, and she possessed what he lacked.

One day David sent ten messengers to go to Carmel to greet Nabal in his name and bring Peace to Nabal’s household.  [By the way, Peace is used in the text three times in the greeting V.6]  David reminded Nabal of how well he treated his men in Carmel and how they were very well-preserved while in David’s presence.  So David expected the same treatment to be returned.  The messengers proceeded to ask Nabal for food and substance seeing they were in the grips of another feast day.

Nabal returned this message with David’s servants:  “Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? …there are many servants nowadays….” [25:10 NKJV]

In other words, I don’t know you or your family.  You are insignificant to me!!

The so very wealthy Nabal, who possess more than sufficient to share with David’s men that day, just insulted David.

Has anyone ever insulted you?  I mean taken your name or your family’s name and sought to devalue, demean and cheapen it.  Far from what God intended it to be.

And what’s sad is that Nabal didn’t get that he was speaking to a King.  The King of Israel’s army and servant of the Most High God… If only he knew how costly, worthy and highly-esteem David was.  If only the enemy of our souls get how costly, worthy and highly-esteem we are!  He would dear not make this remark!

But Abigail, the woman of Beauty and Understanding, as soon as she heard from Nabal’s servant how harsh and rude Nabal was, she hurried and met David, and indeed David already had with him four hundred valiant soldiers armed to recompense Nabal for the evil he had performed.  But Abigail went and bought gift-after-gift- after gift for the King: 200 loaves of bread, wine, prepared lamb and fresh baked grains.

Then Abigail pleaded “On me” may Nabal’s blame be place.  Abigail was so generous and honoring of David, David changed his mind!

The Lord worked things such that 10 days later, not long after Nabal held a large party with his friends, getting stooped and drunk in alcohol, Nabal died.  Then he thanked God for keeping him from avenging this enemy with “my own hand.”

If you don’t remember anything from this, Remember:

God performs vengeance better than you ever could. So let Him fight for you. (Exodus 14:14).

Afterward, David was so impressed with Abigail, that she not only assuaged his anger, but spoke very generous words of honor, that David went and made Abigail his bride.

You are beautiful, you are gifted. Hand-tailored by the Master. A masterpiece of his creation. A helper, an encourager, a source strength and honor. [Psalm 139:14, Gen 2:22, Ephesians 2:10 & Proverbs 31:25]

Leading Women – Moving Pass Your Past

Business Woman Portrait

Have you ever heard something over and over again, and suddenly it finally sticks!  And you get it.

I’ve heard this song on the radio many times.  I’ve listened to the words repeatedly, even sang it out again and again, but it wasn’t until last week- about 6 days ago- the words finally took root in my heart.  The song is entitled:

You Are More…

Written by Tenth Avenue North.

Leading Women, at the core of their being, in the depths of their soul know this statement is true.  They have read in His Word- according to Ephesians 2:10 NIV:

For we are God’s handiwork (NLT says- “Masterpiece”), created in Christ Jesus to do

good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

They’ve not only read and heard this taught from His Word, but they’ve meditate on it and seek to live it!

The truth is there is more to you than the mistakes and sins you’ve committed in the past.   There is more to you than what you’ve done in one instance or snippet of time.  Yes, “You Are More…!”

There are things in her past she may not care to share, sins, failures or embarrassments she has done, but that does not stop her from reaching out to someone else.

The words of the song go: You are more than the choices that you’ve made, You are more than the sum of your past mistakes, You are more than the problems you create, You’ve been remade.

This woman may indeed have hurt a good friendship, been responsible for the breaking of a committed relationship, or she betrayed someone.  She may have once used drugs, slept around, may be responsible for the lost of a little life…. or done other things she regrets and hold a sincere remorse for.  But this woman does not stunt in personal growth because of past sins or sins others have done against her.  She believes a profound truth that has helped her to keep moving, which is:

By the AMAZING grace God extended to humanity when he sent His Son Jesus the Christ to die on an old prickly heavy and uncomfortable  man, woman, boy or girl who believes and receives Christ as their Savior and King! John 3:16, 1 John 1:9. was charged for her guilt, and “past” is removed forever.  This all happened, the moment she believed and

A Leading Woman no longer live in condemnation or shame of her past, for the “past” was removed forever. [Hebrews 10:17]  Rather she is growing, thriving in all that she does, and passing on the grace she’s abundantly received to many others.  TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

Remember, Leading Women walk confidently, speak clearly and with authority, knowing she was design by God, the Loving King and the purpose He has designed her, she seeks to live out as best she knows! (Psalm 139:14, Jeremiah 1:5, 29:11)

Leading Women- Trust in God

Business Woman PortraitKey Verse:

Then God said, Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule.

Or “have dominion.” – Genesis 2:26

When God created mankind, it was His intention for every man, woman, boy or girl to live in dominion or authority. To RULE!   However since Adam and his wife Eve ate of the tree they were commanded not to that dreadful day, a lot of people haven’t been living in the authority God has given them.  Authority where they rule in every situation. Authority where they don’t fret over small mishaps or mistreatment by others. Authority where they don’t worry as to whether they will have food the rest of the week- for God, JEHOVAH JIREH, is their provider. When times get tough, this woman of authority does not sink into discouragement and wallow in defeat. She does not live in constant anxiety trying to control and meticulously direct every area of her life!

Rather, she places her trusts in God, know He is the Only God and King faithful to deliver!

So she lifts up her head, squares back her shoulders and keeps her eyes fixed on the one faithful to answer her every prayer!

“She shall call upon Me, and I will answer her;

I will be with her in trouble; I will deliver her and honor her.” – Psalm 91:15

[Article modified for emphasis]

Today, women lead in various sectors, hold high ranks in a number of vocations and fields, and many of them have impacted the world in unique ways raising the standards and the stakes of our nation.  Women like Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice, both former US Secretary of States, have held some of the highest ranks in the nation. That’s how far women have come; that’s the level of influence we currently hold today.  No the field or sector of society, if this Leading, Thriving, Influential woman forget to acknowledge the Leader of our Souls, then her work is for naught.

In Proverbs 3:5 King Solomon instructed us all to,

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

Her Trust is in God- the Faithful One

Last time we noted that a Godly Leading Woman lives out the following:

  1. Lead with Excellence as unto her God.

In whatever she is doing and with whomever she is serving, it is as though she is doing it before the King.

2.  Meditates on His Word.

God’s Word as stated in the Bible, not only is a fountain of encouragement when we face hard times, but it is the source of instruction for good leadership.  Colossians 4:1 speaks to leaders saying “Masters, do the same things to them [servants], giving up threatening, knowing that your own Master also is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him. Or Jesus instruction in righteous living and good dealership, “Do not cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.”

3.  Walks in wisdom

Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Proverbs (the wisdom book) 4 verse 7.  Or Proverbs 22:7- “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.” Last but not least

4.  Display love to everyone you meet.

She displays love to others as a reflection of love God first gave to her. Heb. 6:10 & John 13:35.  God gave up his one and ONLY Son for us, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish eternally, but rather live! And though we didn’t receive him at the time, He still sent his Son.  “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

Leading Woman of the Week

Beth Moore

Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Beth Moore fell in love with telling and writing stories as a kid, as her father managed a local movie theater. Ultimately, it was the story of a loving Savior who died to set her free which captured her heart and help her catch on to the most powerful concept: that Christ loves her and has a good plan for her life. (Jer. 29:11)

At the age of 18, she sensed the call of God on her life, so she went off and graduated from college. But it was a Bible doctrines class at her church where the teacher, a former football college player name Buddy Walter, who unpacked the Bible, which fostered a love in her heart for God’s Word. The seed of God’s truths and through her godly parents, she grew up into a Teaching & Preaching machine. The World-renown Speaker- Beth Moore that we know today. In 1994 she founded Living Proof Ministries and since then have written numerous books and bible studies including Breaking Free, Believing God, James: Mercy Triumphs and David: A Heart Like His (my personal favorite). An avid bible study teacher and conference leader for over twenty years, Living Proof Ministries Conferences have been held in all 50 states, and the ministry has graced homes and churches not only in the USA, but countries throughout the world. Her radio program is Living Proof with Beth Moore at OnePlace.com and you can find her on mainstream Christian television- Life Today with James & Betty Robison every Wednesday.
