This is a recent teaching on Character at Church of God National Women’s Conference

by Jovette Archer

Character –

´  a set of qualities that are shared by many people in a group, country, or so on.

´  **A set of qualities that make a group of people different or distinct from other groups of people.

Who Are We?

Genesis 2- WOMEN

´  18 And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable [suitable] to him.”           -NKJV

´  21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a WOMAN, and He brought her to the man.

23 And Adam said:

´                                  “This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.”

Fearfully-Made Creatures

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.

– Psalms 139:14

15 My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.

17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!

-Psalms 139:15-17

Purposefully-made Creatures

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

– Jeremiah 1:5

Everything about you was designed by Him;

Designed exactly the way it is.

We are Purposefully designed, masterfully made.

How do we carry ourselves?

  1. Pure heart, pure motives and conversation.

1 Peter 3:1-2

Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the CONDUCT of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear.

Chaste – pure or decent, simple or plain, clean and spotless

2. Strength & Dignity

´  She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.

– Proverbs 31:25

´  She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.

– Proverbs 31:17

3. Gentle & Self-controlled

1Peter 3:3-5

Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible BEAUTY of a gentle (meek) and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands,

Meek – not creating disturbances

What attitude should we portray?

Proverbs 31:12-13

She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
She seeks wool and flax,
And WILLINGLY works with her hands.

Ruth 2:13-15

´  “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before. 12 The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”

´  13 Then she said, “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord; for you have comforted me, and have spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your maidservants.”

“She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”

-Proverbs 31:26

´  Ruth 3:1-4

´  Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek security for you, that it may be well with you? Now Boaz, whose young women you were with, is he not our relative? In fact, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. Therefore wash yourself and anoint yourself, put on your best garment and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. Then it shall be, when he lies down, that you shall notice the place where he lies; and you shall go in, uncover his feet, and lie down; and he will tell you what you should do…”

Proverbs 13:3

´  He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips

´  shall have destruction.

Proverbs 31:20

´  She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.

What is our self-portrait?

´  Women of Dignity,

´  Women of Respect,

´  Women of Confidence.

´  Women Chosen “for such a time as this” Esther 4,
